PANYNJ – JFK Airport Redevelopment
VAR Engineering was subcontracted to provide design management services for the redevelopment of JFK Airport. The project consists in the redevelopment of the terminals at the JFK airport.
Terminals 1, 4 and 6
The new Terminal One (NTO) will be a 23-gate terminal that will feature expansive, naturally lit, public spaces, cutting edge technology and an array of amenities. Designed to enhance the customer experience.
The project will increase the capacity of the terminal by building ten new aircraft parking positions, adding an additional baggage claim carousel and transitioning all operations into terminal 4. The upgrade also includes updated check in hall, new gate finishes, added curb drop-off space, additional digital signage, restroom modernizations, continued technology enhancements.
The renovations at Terminal 6 will add 10 new gates adding floor to ceiling windows, high ceilings throughout the terminal security improvements and other enhancements. A 100,000 SF retail and dining area will also be implemented at the terminal as well as a taxi plaza and designated vehicle pick-up areas. The terminal will also feature airy check-in halls and improved arrival spaces. The upgrade is expected to be completed in 2028. As the senior engineer, my responsibilities are to provide high level audits for Aviation deliverables which include Code/Life safety/Institutional Knowledge/Coordination comments.
